CBN gummies are one of the newest products on the Irish supplement scene. They are usually sold as an evening gummy, often combining CBN with CBD, and are marketed heavily for sleep.
We get asked about them a lot, so this guide explains what CBN gummies are, how they compare with CBD gummies and CBN oil, what the research actually shows, and what to check before you buy. We do not currently sell CBN gummies; our CBN product is an oil, and we explain why below.
The short answer
- CBN (cannabinol) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that forms as THC ages. CBN gummies usually combine it with CBD for evening use.
- Research on CBN and sleep is very early, with small trials and mixed results. CBN gummies are not a sleep treatment.
- Gummies are convenient and pre-measured but less flexible than oil, and they contain sugar and often gelatine.
- Choose products with a lab report showing the CBN and CBD per gummy and no detectable THC, and avoid anything sold as “cannabis”, THC or HHC.
What are CBN gummies?
CBN gummies are chewable supplements that contain cannabinol, usually alongside CBD and sometimes other compounds such as melatonin, chamomile or L-theanine. They look and taste like ordinary fruit gummies, and each one contains a set amount of the active ingredients.
CBN itself forms naturally when THC breaks down over time. For supplements, it is produced in a controlled way from hemp extract and purified so the finished product can contain CBN without THC. We explain the background in CBN vs CBD for sleep.

Why we chose an oil for CBN
When we developed our evening product, we chose an oil for three reasons. First, flexibility: with an oil you can adjust the serving a drop at a time, which matters with a newer ingredient where people’s responses vary. Second, no added sugar late at night. Third, consistency: getting an exact, stable amount of a minor cannabinoid into every gummy is harder than in an oil. Our CBN Snooze Oil (€99.95) combines CBN with CBD and CBC, with about 25mg of CBN per serving according to the label.
If you prefer gummies and want to stick with CBD, our CBD Gummies (€59.95 for 60) contain 15mg of CBD each and are THC-free.
What does the research say?
The research on CBN and sleep is very new. Since 2023, a small number of randomised trials in adults with sleep difficulties have tested CBN, sometimes with CBD. Some reported small differences on certain measures, such as night-time awakenings, while others found little or no difference from placebo. No trial we are aware of has specifically tested CBN gummies, and none has been large or long enough to draw firm conclusions.
That means any product promising that CBN gummies will “knock you out” or “fix your sleep” is going well beyond the evidence. In the EU, food supplements cannot claim to treat insomnia or any other condition.
Red flags when buying CBN gummies
- THC, HHC, THCP or Delta-8 on the label. These are not CBD or CBN products. HHC has been a controlled drug in Ireland since 29 July 2025.
- No lab report. If you cannot see a report for the batch showing CBN and CBD content and no detectable THC, do not buy.
- Packaging that copies sweet brands. It is a sign the seller does not take safety seriously, and it attracts children.
- Huge milligram numbers at very low prices. CBN is expensive to produce, so this is often too good to be true.
- Medical promises. Claims to cure insomnia, anxiety or pain are breaking the rules.
- Hidden melatonin. Melatonin is a prescription-only medicine in Ireland, so gummies containing it should not be sold as food supplements here.
How people use evening gummies
- Take the gummy 30 to 60 minutes before bed, as gummies are digested more slowly than oil.
- Start with the lowest serving on the label, often half or one gummy.
- Keep it consistent for at least a week before deciding whether to change anything.
- Brush your teeth after, as with any sweet before bed.
- Build a wind-down routine around it: lights down, screens away, a caffeine-free drink.
Reading a CBN gummy label
CBN gummy labels can be confusing, so here is what to look for, in order:
- CBN per gummy, in milligrams. This is the number that matters most, not the total in the tub.
- CBD per gummy, if it is a blend.
- Other active ingredients, such as herbs or amino acids. Check each one if you take medication.
- Serving size: is the suggested serving one gummy or two?
- Sugar and gelatine: most gummies contain both, so they are not suitable for vegans unless made with pectin.
- Batch number and best-before date, which should match the lab report.
If any of these are missing, or the numbers on the label do not match the lab report, choose a different product.
Travelling with CBN products
Rules on cannabinoids vary from country to country, and CBN is less familiar to customs officers than CBD. If you travel, keep products in their original labelled packaging with a copy of the lab report, check the rules of your destination before you go, and never carry anything containing THC or HHC. Outside the EU, some countries treat any cannabinoid product as a controlled substance, so the safest choice for many trips is to leave them at home.
Who might consider an evening gummy?
Evening gummies tend to suit people who dislike the taste of oil, want a fixed amount without measuring drops, and already have a reasonably steady bedtime routine. They are less suited to people who want to fine-tune the amount they take, who are cutting down on sugar, or who follow a vegan diet. Whatever format you choose, the routine around it matters more than the product itself.
Safety points
- Speak to your GP or pharmacist before using CBN or CBD products if you take any medication, especially sleeping tablets, sedatives, antidepressants, blood thinners or epilepsy medication.
- Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel drowsy, and avoid alcohol.
- Some workplace drug screening tests may react to CBN. If you are tested, take advice first.
- Do not use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. For adults only.
- Store gummies out of reach of children and pets: they look like ordinary sweets.
The bigger picture on sleep
Supplements sit on top of the basics, not in place of them. A consistent wake time, morning daylight, a cool, dark bedroom, less caffeine and alcohol, and a regular wind-down make the biggest difference for most people. See our guides to your circadian rhythm and CBD vs sleep medications. If poor sleep has lasted more than a few weeks, talk to your GP.
Frequently asked questions
Do you sell CBN gummies?
Not at the moment. Our CBN product is CBN Snooze Oil, which lets you adjust the serving drop by drop and contains no added sugar.
Will CBN gummies make me groggy the next morning?
Some people report grogginess, especially at higher amounts or if taken late. Start with the lowest serving and take it 30 to 60 minutes before bed.
Can I take CBN gummies every night?
Many people use evening supplements nightly, but there is little research on long-term CBN use. Review your routine regularly and speak to your GP if you take medication.
How is CBN different from melatonin?
Melatonin is a hormone and a prescription-only medicine in Ireland. CBN is a cannabinoid from hemp sold in food supplements. They work in different ways.
What if I already use CBD oil for sleep?
You can keep things simple and continue, or try an evening blend with CBN. Change one thing at a time so you can tell what helps.
Are CBN gummies legal in Ireland?
CBN is sold in hemp-derived food supplements in Ireland. The key point is that a product should contain no THC, so check the lab report. Avoid anything containing HHC, which is a controlled drug.
Do CBN gummies contain THC?
A good product should not. Check the lab report for the batch.
Are CBN gummies vegan?
Most contain gelatine. Only gummies made with pectin or another plant-based gelling agent are suitable for vegans.
How many CBN gummies should I take?
Follow the serving on the label and start with the lowest amount. Do not exceed the stated serving.
